Pirate Shirt
Pirate Shirt
Favored by poets and pirates, these generously cut work shirts stayed in fashion with relatively little change for over a century. This particular shirt is patterned off of surviving pieces from the earlier part of the 18th century, which tend to have fewer frills than later shirts. If you are the ghost of a long-dead pirate, please refrain from asking me where your shirt is. I don't know. They are made from 100% unbleached cotton muslin, which is soft and dense for comfort and durability. Shirts were made of linen almost exclusively until the late 18th century, so this cotton version is most appropriate for casual and intermediate time travel or re-enactment.
Generous underarm gussets were a staple in this period, and offer you the most magical ability to lift your arms high without pulling your shirt untucked. Because of this, the sleeves may feel unusual to modern wearers at first. Completely flat-felled interior seams prevent uncomfortable rubbing, and hand covered buttons blend in seamlessly- most fashionable for a Gregorian sailor.
Sizes based on your measurements, not the final measurements of the shirt. Measure from one point of shoulder to the other across the back for width, and from point of shoulder to underarm crease for sleeve setting. Choose a size that best reflects your measurements, but those with broad or muscular shoulders should err to larger sizes
Size A: 16" shoulder to shoulder, 8" shoulder to underarm
Size B: 19" shoulder to shoulder, 9" shoulder to underarm
Size C: 22" shoulder to shoulder, 10" shoulder to underarm
